Although Crown Park is one of the newest courses on the Grand Strand, our course has a classic design. The architect chose not to over power the vacationing golfer with overbearing length, but instead to challenge our guests with ball placement and accuracy. Measuring only 6502 yards from the back tees the course may seem tame on paper, but our tree lined fairways and undulating greens offer a sufficient test for all skill levels. You may pay a high price for an offline tee shot at Crown Park; however, if you are able find the fairway you can take full advantage of our length. That’s why accuracy is at a premium when playing Crown Park Golf Club.
Here are some tips to help you play your best during your visit:
TIP #1: The best way to increase the number of fairways you hit is to find your own tempo. Just from watching golf on TV you can tell that every golfer on the PGA Tour swings with a different tempo. Discover your ideal tempo by making three continuous practice swings, without a ball, using a 5-iron. Make the swings in a pendulum fashion, back and through, while maintaining good balance. Then hit a teed golf ball, focusing on repeating the same tempo with a balanced finish. Perform this drill with short irons, long irons and woods as well to see if your tempo remains constant. For every club in the bag, the tempo should be the same. It should take the same amount of time to make a swing with your pitching wedge as it does for the 7-iron and the driver.
TIP #2: Now that you’ve found your tempo, let’s make sure you’re aimed toward the target. Many amateur golfers make the mistake of aiming their body at the target and not the clubface. This can cause a lot of missed fairways and greens. The best and easiest way to assure your aimed at your target is to stand behind the ball and face where you want the ball to go, whether it be the fairway or flagstick. Now pick out a spot on the ground 12” to 18” in front of your ball online with the target. When you address the ball you just aim your clubface at the spot, and then set your feet parallel to your clubface. This should put you in an ideal position to make your most accurate shot possible.
Be sure to show up early enough for your tee time to try these tips out on our state of the art practice facility. The practice area at Crown Park includes a driving range, huge putting green, pitching/chipping area with bunkers.
We look forward to your visit and doing what we can to make your vacation a memorable one.
