As mentioned previously, Clay, our golf package pro at TtimesOnly.com, has a great understanding of Myrtle Beach golf courses. After years of some good (and some very awful) golf-filled weekends, he’s become an unofficial authority on the topic of what to play, and what to avoid at all costs. At my request, again, Clay stepped up to the plate to offer his suggestions for the Most Fun golf courses to play in Myrtle Beach.

The South Carolina Golf Course Ratings Panel released its list of the top-25 courses in the state for 2007. No big surprise from those of us who live along the Grand Strand, a whopping 13 from the Myrtle Beach area made the rank, which was decided by a 119-member panel. Votes were given based on design balance, aesthetics, strategy, how memorable the experience of play was, and routing. Which courses made the cut? Barefoot Resort’s Love, Dye & Fazio courses, Legends Resort’s Heathland Course, Prestwick Country Club, Caledonia Golf & Fish club, King’s North at Myrtle Beach National, Grande Dunes Resort Course, The Dunes Golf & Beach Club, Tidewater Plantation, Heritage Club, and True Blue. When making your next Myrtle Beach golf vacation plans, be sure to ask your golf specialist to include one, or several, of these great courses in your package.

Golf Pro Tip
The “Home Hole” at Heather Glen Golf Links offers many challenges. The Par 5, dogleg right, plays 587 yards from the tips. The trouble starts early as the tee shot must avoid the trees lining the right side of the hole, and a large sand trap on the left. A very well-struck tee shot comes with a tough decision: go for it, or lay up?
